quick work, great cleanup, unbelievable harassment for payment, ignores customer instructions and requests
I have had roofs replaced both in Colorado and New Mexico. Jasper Contractors were very quick and did do an excellent job of cleaning up the debris in the yard after the roof was replaced, but I wouldn't use them again, nor would I recommend them to anyone.
Initially I was very impressed as "Steve" came to the door and asked about inspecting our roof as the company was in the area and doing work for other homeowners (we had experienced a destructive hail storm in June). He promptly inspected the roof, showed me some pictures of damage to our roof caused by hail, promised that he'd forward the pictures to me so that I could show them to my husband since he wasn't home at the time, and produced a contract for me to sign. They said that they'd arrange the repairs through our insurance and we'd have to give them a check for our deductible at the time repairs were to start. Supplies were delivered and workmen arrived to start work earlier in the morning than they said they would which was great. Work had been in progress for over 2 hours when "Steve" showed up to collect the check, but instead of the $1,000 deductible, he suggested that I give them the $6,700+ initial payment the insurance company was in the process of forwarding to us. I said that I was prepared to pay the $1,000 and "Steve" suggested that I might want to put the total cost of repairs on a credit card so that I could get credit for the points or perks of the card. He accepted the $1,000. Within 2 days of completion of the roof, I received the initial payment from the insurance company made out to the mortgage company and my husband and I. "Steve" was notified the day I received the check (the Friday before Columbus Day) and I told him that it had to be sent to the mortgage company for their signature and the mortgage company didn't have a local office, so I was mailing the check out immediately. I got a call from "Steve" on Monday asking me if I had the check back. Since it was Memorial Day and the check had been mailed 3 days earlier, I told him that I wasn't anticipating the check's return as it probably hadn't been received in Ohio and this day wasn't a mail delivery day due to the holiday. He "offered" to call the mortgage company for me to "speed up" the process. Now I am of the opinion that if Jasper or "Steve" aren't making the housepayments for me, nor aren't on the mortgage, then they have no business trying to deal with my mortgage company in reference to my property. I received a packet from the mortgage company with paperwork that Jasper and myself had to fill out prior to the mortgage company endorsing the check and sending it back to us. I forwarded the paperwork that Jasper had to complete to them by email with instructions to return it to me as the mortgage company wanted the "complete packet" returned to them and I would send it in with the paperwork we had to fill out. Prior to this I had been getting daily phone calls from "Steve" asking if the check had been returned. After I forwarded the paperwork, I heard nothing from Jasper until I contacted them 3 days later to inquire as to when they were getting the required forms back to me. I was then told that they sent them on to the mortgage company (despite my instructions and my having forwarded the instructions on the completion of paperwork from the mortgage company). After I learned that they had totally disregarded the mortgage company's and my instructions, I mailed in my portion of the paperwork which had been delayed by Jasper's ignoring and then not contacting me to let me know that they ignored the instructions and forwarded the paperwork themselves. It didn't matter to "Steve" that they were the people responsible for the delay in payment, I then began getting the daily calls and frequent emails inquiring as to the status of the check and whether I had received it. When I received return of the check, "Steve" was notified and received the total amount of the check. (I forgot to mention that not only did I get daily calls, but frequently he stopped by the house to make personal contact with me). Since we had replacement insurance, the total cost of the roof minus our deductible was covered by The insurance company sent the rest of the money after they were notified that the entire roof had been replaced and I had to forward that check to the mortgage company for their endorsement, also. The mortgage company wasn't returning the check until they had an inspector come out and inspect the work and "Steve" was notified of that, too. Still I got the phone calls and he still contacted the mortgage company to inquire about the check. When I got the check, I mailed them the payment despite "Steve's" insistence that he stop by and pick it up. I was totally fed up with Jasper and told him that I was mailing the payment at the time I told him that I had the final check. Still he wanted to ignore my wishes and pick it up. Fortunately I was out of town so if he came by the house, nobody was home and nobody was going to get harassed.
I had to contact him for the pictures of the damage he promised to send us as they weren't sent despite his assurances. I also had to ask for a complete itemized invoice for the work as all I received was a total bill for "roof replacement" and nothing about what the roof was replaced with, labor hours, etc. Not only that, but they also didn't supply a roof replacement estimate at the time they wanted to contract to do the job, and they also wanted to be present when the insurance adjuster came to the house to look at the roof damage. I did demand, and eventually received, an itemized invoice. All in all, the behavior of the Denver area Jasper Contractor office was more like the behavior one would expect from a fly-by-night operator as they seemed to be almost frantic to receive payment and most companies that do insurance work are familiar with how insurance companies pay out and don't expect payment immediately, nor do they contact you on an almost daily basis (leaving messages on your home phone and cell phone on the same days).
It is because of the harassment and ignoring customer wishes and instructions that I wouldn't recommend Jasper Contractors to anyone except someone that I wanted to see annoyed to death -- an enemy of mine. Sadly, I don't have any enemies that I would want to inflict Jasper upon.
