Integrity is an issue here.

I recently had work done by Keith’s A+ Transmission. I had my transmission rebuilt in the car listed above. Let me first start at the beginning.
Dec. 26th, 2009 - I was in their part of town when my transmission quit shifting. I called them and they told me to bring it by and they would have a look. They found my shift cable had come disconnected from my transmission. They reconnected and secured the cable for me. They didn't charge me anything. James was the person I was working with at the time. I told him about some other issues I was having at the time. He told me to bring it in on Monday and they would have a look at it. He said my 4l60e transmission was not too expensive to fix. When I asked him the price he quoted me $1200 max if they had to rebuild the whole thing.
Later that Evening - My transmission began to mess up so bad that I could not safely drive it anywhere. I decided to leave it in front of the Keith's A+ Transmission Shop so I would break down on the side of the road somewhere.
Dec. 28th, 2009 - I drove down to the shop in a borrowed vehicle to take them the keys to my car. Theron Newton, the manager, was the person I dealt with this time. He said they would test drive and run some checks on my transmission. He called back a little bit later and said a complete rebuild would be required to get it back to working order. He went on to explain that he is so confident in his shops work that he backs every car that leaves with 24 month 24 thousand mile warranty. He quoted me a price of $1850. I told him James had quoted me a price of $1200. He said he would go ahead and rebuild it for that price.
Dec 29th 2009 - Theron calls me and explains to me that the rebuilder suggest that we put stronger, higher performance parts in the transmission since my car had higher horsepower. He quotes the parts to be an extra $650 which would put my total at the original price of $1850. This seemed pretty fishy to me, but didn’t think much of it.
Dec 30th. 2009 - James calls me on the phone and says my car is available for pick-up. I tell him I am working and will not be able to make it today. He goes on to explain to me that they are closing their year out this day and requests if I could pay for the transmission work over the phone. I agree to help them out and pay for the work over the phone using my debit card. Total cost $1250.
Dec 31, 2009 - I am able to break away from work early. I arrive at the transmission shop. Theron is once again working. I begin to look over my paper work and notice that the warranty is only for 12 months 12000 miles. I show Theron the warranty and he says, "the 24 month 24000 mile warranty is for the $1850 price...you decided to get the ‘cheap’ rebuild and I cannot back that up with a 24/24 warranty!" There was nothing I could do at this point. I tried to reason with him, but he just became infuriated. They already had my money.
There was no prior discussion of a 12/12 warranty. All I had known was a 24/24 warranty. Up to this point, minus the part about him asking me for more money, there service had been great. Everyone had been friendly and courteous. I wish our business did not end like it did. I thought I had finally found a transmission shop that I could trust and refer people to.
NOTE: It has come to my attention, after doing some research on their website, that they offer a "FREE 36 months, 36,000 mile limited warranty." I wonder why my warranty is one third that of the free one they offer to everyone else?

I appreciate Bryans review and would like to respond with this. When Bryan dropped off his keys on the 28th I told him we would perform our 22 point diagnostic and see what was wrong with his car. After completion of the checkout I called and explained the problems and quoted $1850 to rebuild his transmission with a 24 month or 24000 mile warranty but the reason I was giving him the 24/24 warranty was because we would be doing some upgrades to the transmission, such as upgrading the clutch in the torque converter and a redesigned 3-4 clutch assembly that dissipates heat better than the original design just to name a few. He said that James had quoted him $1200 and that he wanted it at that price. I said I would honor that quote but it would not include any upgrades. He said he was fine with that. James called him back later that evening and tried to explain the upgrades again and Bryan still wanted the stock repair.
Dec. 31st Bryan calls and says he can come get his car, I told him we were closing early but I would wait. As he looked over the paperwork he said, Why is the warranty 12 month and 12000 miles and not 24/24. I explained that he received a stock rebuild and the standard warranty for that repair is 12/12. He had declined the upgraded rebuild and along with that the upgraded warranty. We performed the work he asked us to and he was given the warranty that comes with that repair. He never asked what warranty came with the stock rebuild and was never told he would get a 24/24 with a standard rebuild. There is nothing “cheap” about a standard rebuild but if I know of a better way to do something I like to make that option available to my customer. The customer needs all the information so they can make the best decision for them. Bryan said he wouldn’t be keeping this car more than another year and didn’t see the point in putting any more money into the car than necessary. I respect that, it’s his decision. I try to do what is just, right and fair by anyone I come in contact with no matter where I am or what I’m doing.
